Education Advocacy Series in Spanish

The Metropolitan Parent Center will be offering the "Education Advocacy for Parents" intensive workshop series in Spanish for the very first time on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of July.  

 

This free series is designed to help parents of children with any disability learn to navigate the NYC special education system and to become effective advocates for their children. Topics to be discussed will include: 

  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) law
  • The Special Education Process (Referral, Classification & Placement)
  • Understanding the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Process
  • Special Education Services in New York City
  • Due Process and Parent Rights
  • Early Childhood Services and Supports
  • Post School Transition Programs and Services for Young Adults with Disabilities
  • Dispute Resolution Strategies (Mediation; and the Impartial Hearing and the Resolution Session)
  • Parent and Family Engagement in their Child's School and Education
