East Ramapo school district’s sinking fiscal situation and declining public educational offerings have spurred various calls for action. The local NAACP wants the governor to get involved. The state education commissioner wants legislation allowing the Board of Regents to intervene in school districts that are in academic or fiscal distress, or, in the case of East Ramapo, both.
