Jon Stewart to Join 9/11 First Responders to Urge Congress to Extend the Zadroga Act

On Sept. 8/15, Citizens for the Extension of the James Zadroga Act and 9/11 responder, John Feal, announced that Jon Stewart will go to DC with hundreds of 9/11 first responders on Sept. 16 to press congress to pass the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act.  This legislation will allow for the continuation of the compensation and health care programs that the 9/11 responders and survivors need and deserve.

After all, the district’s black and Latino communities, whose children make up 87.6 percent of the 8,109 students attending its schools, have been subjected to educational malpractice by the board, which is majority white and Jewish. The fact that Weingarten has been silent on the abuse heaped upon East Ramapo’s children says plenty about where her concerns — and that of the union — truly lie.

Education Law Center 9/2/15: ELC Demands Immediate Action by NYSED in Ramapo

ELC informed the State Education Commissioner and Regents Chancellor of its intention to bring a parents’ law suit against the New York State Education Department in the event that actions by the newly appointed monitor in East Ramapo do not effectively address issues raised in the Greenberg Report as well as the State Focus Report recommendations.  The ELC letter emphasizes the need for substantive changes to be implemented during the 2015-16 school year.
